• Everyone should act civil, mature, and respectful toward one another. While debating and discussion is fine, we will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts. We reserve the right to remove offensive posts without notice.

• Non-RP sections of EthereaLights are rated "R" by default. The only exception to this rule is the role-playing forums (which can be rated anything the role-player chooses, lower or higher). However, we expect our members to respect those around you and their sensitivity.

• You must be at least 17 years of age or older to join. We are a mature community, and because our board is rated R, meaning all discussions can go up to such a rating, we require that our members be of an appropriate age in order to join and participate.

• Signatures have a limit of 500 characters. Avatars can be no bigger than 150 x 200 pixels. This is a pretty lenient rule. Signature images have no specified limit, but please, do keep it reasonable. If we see signature images with a height bigger then, say, 300 pixels, that is far too large. Avatars do have a 64 KB limit.

• No spamming. Double posting is acceptable, as long as your second immediate post isn't directly after the first, and it doesn't relate to the same thing you talked about in the previous post. If your want to add more to what you said in a post, simply edit it. However, direct spamming and useless, pointless spam is not permissible. Also, try to avoid repeatedly bumping a thread.

• Do not condone illegal activities. Discussion of illegal activities such as software and music piracy and other intellectual property violations are not allowed. Encouraging any other acts that are illegal, such as underage drinking, the use of illegal narcotics, and so forth is also against the rules.

• We require acceptable grammar, spelling, and punctuation from all of our members at all times. “Acceptable" means that errors and typos are okay every so often, so long as you are making an effort. If you never proofread your posts, use shorthand or 1337, or if you type in any way that makes your writing difficult to comprehend, you will be asked to improve your sentences.

• Plagiarism is a bannable offense. We will not tolerate people who steal other people's artwork, music, writing, or ideas. If you have source materials or inspirations that seem to "copy" another persons work, please give credit where it is due. Take pride in your own work, not in somebody else's.

• No harassing. Harassment in any form, be it in the forums or through PMs is not allowed. Please do not repeatedly hound a person for any reason, including constantly asking them to reply to a role-play. If you tell a person to stop harassing you and they do not quit, please bring it to the attention of an Administrator.

• Do not abuse the Reputation system. If anyone is caught giving too many unwarranted Reputation points, be they positive or negative, without justification, they will face being warned or banned.

• Please keep all these rules in mind in the Chatbox. The Chatbox feature is a privilege. If you are seen abusing it (and yes, it archives everything said, so we will notice any inappropriate activity), you will be kicked and disconnected from the Chatbox. If you continue with your behavior after you've been spoken to about it, you will be added to the banned list for the Chatbox and will be unable to use it for an indefinite amount of time.

• We have final say. While these rules cover the most common situations, they cannot anticipate everything. Consequently, we reserve the right to take any actions we deem appropriate to ensure these forums are not disrupted or abused in any way. We also reserve the right to ban anyone who wilfully violates the forum rules.

• Act courteous toward your fellow role-players. Think of every role-play you enter into as a commitment of sorts. Please try to avoid keeping your partners waiting, or bailing all together without informing them. It’s important to be up front and honest about things such as how long you take to post, how many other role-plays you’re juggling, and how easily you may lose interest.

• Always discuss your RPs first and only speak OOC in the discussion thread. Before creating a role-play, be sure to at least bring it up in the Discussion forum to make sure someone else is interested in joining you and to ensure that your role-play doesn't go unseen. It's also a wise idea to plan ahead in your role-play discussion thread and to include any and all out-of-character discussion in said thread, so that your role-play can be neat and without any talk disrupting it.

• All role-play posts must be a minimum of 10 sentences long. There is no maximum. In addition to this, all posts are expected to have near-perfect grammar, spelling and punctuation, as well as have a comprehensive plot and character development.

• Rate each role-play in the title. For the courtesy of others, please always put a rating in the title of your role-play thread. Our rating system is more-or-less ripped off that of the MMPA. "G" threads are as innocent as possible; "PG" threads contain very slightly offensive material (minor profanity, cartoon violence), "PG-13" threads contain material clearly unsuitable for children (minor references to sex or drugs, excessive mild profanity, indescript violence), "R" threads contain material unsuitable for most teenagers (excessive profanity, descriptive violence, on-screen sex or drug use), and "NC-17" threads contain blatantly offensive material (graphic sex or violence). Each of these are welcome at EthereaLights.
