Synopsis
The universe, named EthereaLights, formed approximately 14 billion years ago with the Big Bang. According to the Big Bang model, the universe expanded from an extremely dense and hot state and continues to expand today. A common and useful analogy explains that space expands, carrying galaxies with it, like raisins in a rising loaf of bread. No one knows for certain what caused the creation of the universe, but many have speculated and formed their own beliefs. With the universe came galaxies and stars, and with those stars came suns and planets. In turn, life was born and evolved throughout the vast space. There are quadrillions of species throughout the universe now today of varying intelligences and at various states in their technological advancement. While there are countless species, races, and animals in the universe, EthereaLights concentrates on a few of the key ones.
On Earth, the setting takes place in the year 2020 AD/CE, which is now being called 7 SE. Much has changed in just the past couple of decades. In the year 2012, a cataclysmic event that would destroy most life on Earth was prevented not at the hands of humans, but of extraterrestrials. An alignment occurred in December of 2012, when the sun rose to the middle of the Milky Way Galaxy, thus causing an alignment between the Earth, sun, and the Galactic Center. The event was a visual phenomenon from the Earth's perspective, which was caused by the precession of the equinoxes, or the 26,000-year wobble of the Earth. Alien beings (the Provectus), utilizing their superior technology, were able to prevent the planet Nibiru, which had an odd orbit that only entered the local solar system every 3,600 years and returned in 2012, from colliding with Earth, thus saving the planet. Because of their noble act of kindness, along with a bit of an optimistic nudge in the direction toward acceptance from the government and media, the public quickly warmed up to the idea of aliens and life on other planets and soon were welcoming them with open arms. After all, such a realization was not so monumental after the near extinction of humankind. After the world had been saved and extraterrestrial life was admitted to exist, a new age began, and many countries around the world acknowledged the restart of the years, now calling the year 2013 AD '1 SE,' an abbreviation for the Space Era. In addition to the world openly being aware of extraterrestrials, technology is beginning to rapidly evolve in the future, thanks to the help and guidance of select groups of Provectus and Zetans. The United States, the United Nations, Russia, and Japan have each come to an agreement following the events in December of 2012, focusing their attention to the heavens and space exploration, discovery, and the desire to unite in a mutual relationship with extraterrestrials for the benefit of both species. These countries are concentrating all their efforts to not only space and aliens, but also to finding a sister planet for Earth to one day inhabit.
The Provectus, or the Ancient Ones, are the true "masters of the universe," as their kind are the most intelligent, wise, and technologically advanced. Their goals for some millions of years now have been to study other organisms around the universe in as many varying planets on as many different galaxies as possible. Thus, they have also resorted to using their own technology to create life, even starting entire civilizations of species, including humans (thought most humans, even today, are unaware of this). They have succeeded in creating almost all of the bipedal, humanoid life forms in the universe, all of which have been created in their likeness in some fashion. Since the Provectus do not possess morals as humans do, they do not feel that what they are doing could be considered degrading, in a sense, to some species, since - to the Provectus - those species' lives serve only the purpose of study subjects. Nevertheless, the Provectus wish for their creations to evolve (either naturally or with their help, depending upon their experiment) and grow and to find their own purpose and place within the universe. Despite what a few people may believe, the Provectus are naturally 'good' and do not wish harm upon any living being (unlike the Zetans, who are naturally 'neutral').
Though the threat of the world being destroyed by the rocketing planet is over, Earth is still facing dark times. Corrupt leaders govern many major countries, an energy crisis is near reaching its breaking point, many people are feeling confused and lost at the thought of there being aliens and are trying to rediscover and reevaluate their beliefs, and all the while, the world is being overtaken by a conspiracy theorist's worst nightmare - secret, underground societies of various branches of government who have no obligations to follow any laws and who have more power than any president, emperor, king, prime minister, or any other governing force. There are those that avert their eyes, refusing to believe what is right before there faces and those who simply remain ignorant of anything of such nature. And then there will be those that rise up in opposition, hoping not only to win their own liberties for their world, but to also prepare their fellow man for the day they take their first steps on their second home planet to start new civilizations and governments - to start a new world...to start over.
One major organization, funded by the US government, is already underway in space exploration and reconnaissance. Their mission: to locate a suitable planet similar to their own for humans to occupy in addition to Earth that requires as little work as possible to make livable. (Not only is this necessary because of human overpopulation, but also because Earth's natural resources are being rapidly depleted, and humans are too underdeveloped and too greedy to prevent such a thing from happening with the current amount of people in the world.) This project has been named the Extraterrestrial Colonization Program, or ECP. The ECP scientists, astronauts, and other employees work hand-in-hand with NASA, and their current headquarters and base of operations is located inside a large space station orbiting the Earth.
Something that no human could have predicted when they set out into the unexplored reaches of the galaxy was the darkness in the form of unidentified starships, unknown even to the wise Provectus. These ships, which were completely black, with the exception of their few white lights, which resembled the blackness of space and the dotting of the stars, were entirely invisible to all forms of radar and detection, and even to the bare human eye were hard to spot. The inhabitants of these hostile and malevolent-motivated starships are unknown, but from what humans and other space-bound beings in the universe have observed, these Wraith ships do not appear friendly to anyone.
