Continuous Updates On the Progress of EL

For those of you who will be around and are interested on keeping updated on the important points that I am working on to get EthereaLights up to the point of completion, this thread will be here for your viewing. I am not looking for feedback at this point in time, so I will lock this to prevent replies.

The first few steps to sorting things out and paving the way toward the future generation of EL...

• Created a new banner and removed references to mythology and folklore
  
• Deleted all magic, spells, and enchants
  
• Removed any references to magic in all species, rewriting many of their histories as a result
  
• Edited a few minor things that needed changing
  
• Took away the notion of immortality to make things more realistic
  
• Added Contrasts From Humans to the profiles of species (instead of magical abilities)
  
• Deleted the Phasmatis and replaced their species with the Aliquantulus
  
• Created the Zetar planet for the Aliquantulus
  
• Began redoing the information on the animals and creatures
  

• Added more to and finished the synopsis
  
• Worked on planets
  
• Finished all information on all planets
  
• Changed the link colors
  

Now, all that's left to do is finish all of the creatures and animals, and I think EthereaLights will be finished!

I've not been around much today, but when I was, I was working on a few minor things.

Once I'm all finished with the animals of the EL universe, I'd like to start on drawing each species. I'd like to use the drawings to make flyers for advertising, wallpapers for your computer, and possibly even to use the artwork for our own CafePress shop. (I've worked with CafePress before, and I'm fairly impressed by it and its products.)

Also for the future, I'd like to start a monthly newsletter. We're doing this on a different message board I Administrate (Surreal*Twilight), and I really love the idea. Basically, it's just a good way to unify the community and inform all the members what's been going on lately and to include some fun contests and games. But this is something that we won't need until later on.

Finally, I'd also like to start annual events here, like our own personal holidays. I already have one thing in mind, and I think that they could be really fun for everyone.


Anyway, I am now going to unlock this thread so I can hear your feedback. What do you guys think of everything and all these new ideas?

I concur! Some excellent work you are doing Syren and I am very fond of the move into a more Science Fiction like realm! Great work!

Aww, thanks, you guys! I'm so glad that we all seem to be on board with all this! I should be okay for now with the things that I'm working on currently, but I'll definitely keep you both in mind for when I do need help, so thanks for the offer!

I actually already created a wallpaper yesterday for EL, just one without any of the characters on it (obviously - since I haven't drawn them yet), but I'm probably not going to release it until I finish the other desktop wallpapers.

Hey guys, so there was a little issue that I just noticed this morning. We were getting a General Error that wouldn't allow you to post in any topics or create any new topics. I don't think it lasted very long, but that happened since Forumotion (the guys I get this message board from) were just doing an update, so no biggie! It's all working fine now. It wasn't just our board either - all Forumotion boards experienced it for a little bit. I'm guessing no one was even around to notice, but I thought I'd say something just in case.

I now added a Personal Title feature for you guys, so you can display some sort of title in your profiles when you post. To edit your PT, just click on the Profile link at the top.

I decided to do away with RP Mods and OOC Mods, because frankly, neither one is going to be overwhelmed with work, so it does not make sense to divide them up. In addition, if I wanted to keep them, then I'd have to make another type of mod for the creative section...which brings me to my next new addition.

I decided we could just separate the creative forums from the OOC ones, especially since we seem to have some creative people here. Plus, I'd really like this place to cater to those artistically- and writing-inclined.

Some exciting new updates:

We now have Advanced Profiles! Check them out! You can leave comments on other people's profiles too.

We also have a Multi-Quote feature now, so if you want to quote more than one person, just click the Multi-Quote button for each post you want to quote, then hit Reply.

If you check out the Memberlist (the link at the top), you'll also see that all the avatars for each member are now displayed there.

Finally, we have a Point and Reputation system now, too. If you'll notice, you have the ability to + or - any post, basically rating them. If someone gave you a + and you'd like to thank them, you can do that too by click on the Thanks button, which will give them +3 points (instead of just +1). Other ways to earn points are by posting, adding friends, messaging people in their profiles, and just by being here! You earn one point per day since you've registered.

As you can see, I consolidated a couple forums and added some more. I'm really excited about the blog forum now too, and I'm happy I got the idea to do that. I also thought it'd be a good idea to add separate forums for each place to RP in. After all, not only is it something more role-play message boards do, but it also makes it appear as if our RPing is very important here, which it is - it is EthereaLights!

Alright, we're experiencing some bugs and problems with the new updates. I've been trying to solve it all morning, but people aren't responding. As you may have noticed, you can't see your Reputation or how many Points you have. It's just not showing up for some reason. The birthday option in your Profiles too seems to be having issues. As I said, I'm trying to get them solved, but it seems like it's going to take some time.
